While serving as the interim pastor at Tiburon, Dr. Shouse made it perfectly clear that he was the interim and that the pastor search committee should seek the Lord's leadership in the selection of the next pastor of TBC. After several months of work, the committee returned to John and indicated that God had led them to him. John restated that he was the interim and that they should get back to work. A couple of months later, they returned asking John to pray about becoming TBC's sixth pastor. John prayed and the Lord opened the door to his being called to serve as lead pastor while continuing his full-time role as professor of Christian Theology at Golden Gate. John is married to Stephanie and they live in Novato.
John is the author of An Introduction to Christian Worship and is active in the professional theater, most recently in Equity productions of William Shakespeare. Dr. Shouse is also a performing illusionist and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians. He has written numerous professional papers and publications, been featured speaker at conferences throughout the country, and has regularly been involved in pulpit supply and interim pastorates.
John is a native of Washington, D.C. and has served churches in Texas, Kentucky, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia. Dr. Shouse has also been an adjunct professor at Austin Presbyterian Seminary; adjunct professor of religion at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas; Garret Fellow in Systematic Theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; guest lecturer for the Bible Chair at the University of Texas; and a Visiting Scholar at Fuller Seminary, St. Andrews University, and the Graduate Theological Union.
John's academic history includes a B.A. from Oberlin College, M.Div. & S.T.M. from Yale University and Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Reed graduated from West Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Arts in English Literature and a Masters of Divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He is now working on his Masters in Theology.
Reed's passion for youth ministry comes out of his own experiences as a Middle and High School student. He desires to see youth become fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ and believes in creating a fun, patient, and supportive environment to facilitate this kind of discipleship. Reed believes Jesus Christ offers a free gift that will bless youth in their daily lives like no other person or thing can. He also believes there is no better job in the world than studying the Bible, having fun, and developing friendships with youth.
